Your search + random word = great results!

With normal Google searching, there are many web pages that you may never have a chance to see. So BananaSlug throws in a random word from a category of your choice. This results in pages you probably overlooked. They all have your search term in them, but the added twist gives you something new every time!

How it works

1. Enter your search term in the window
2. Select a category for your random word
3. That's it!

About BananaSlug

BananaSlug was designed to promote serendipitous surfing: finding the unexpected in the 8,058,044,651 web pages indexed by Google. Directed Google searches return pages most relevant to your search term, based on the pages' popularity on the Web. You may never see some of the pages way down the list that are relevant or interesting, but off the beaten path.

So we give you a little boost. We "seed" your search with another word, chosen at random, and this accidental encounter results in pages you may have overlooked. What, if anything, do all the results have in common? You tell me!

We offer several categories of random words: The major arcana and suits of the Tarot, some themes of Shakespeare (From Hamlet and King Lear), words from "Angel Cards", proper names, animals, world cities, jargon, archetypes, Laws of Spirit, Adler's Great Ideas, Wordsmith.Org's A Word A Day (using an RSS feed of today's word!) and Anagram Words, random numbers, emotions, current news words from 10x10, the daily Urban Dictionary word, the NATO phonetic alphabet and NEW! colors.

Gary Peare first turned me on to this concept as a way for him to discover out-of-the way ukulele sites. So thanks, Gary. He also suggested I use SpellWeb so I won't spell it "ukelele".

BananaSlug uses the Google APIs, and as such, it's limited to 1000 queries a day (which is happening quickly now!) If we're past the limit, we send you to Google with your search term and seed word.

One more thing... if plain old Google doesn't return many results for your search, BananaSlug's seeded subset won't either.

Oh, and by the way...

BananaSlug was just named to PCMag.com Top 100 Sites for 2005, Search & Portals Category.
